Captain Tom Moore, Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir have reached Number 1 on The Official Big Top 40 with their charity single 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Captain Tom Moore has topped off a record-breaking week by going to Number 1 on the UK's biggest chart show.

The 99-year-old veteran, who has raised over £25 million for NHS charities, has recorded a cover of 'You'll Never Walk Along' with legendary singer Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir and it's gone straight to the top of the charts.

The single is helping Captain Tom to raise even more money for NHS Charities Together, the organisation which represents 140 NHS charities who work to enhance patient care around the UK.

Dame Vera Lynn and Katherine Jenkins’ duet of ‘We’ll Meet Again’, which is also raising money for the charity, has climbed an incredible 31 places to Number 3 on this Sunday's chart.

The Official Big Top 40 is the UK's biggest chart show and the British public's streams and downloads have pushed Captain Tom's cover to the top of the charts, just days after it was released.

Captain Tom's daughter Hannah and grandson Benji were on FaceTime as Will Manning revealed that the song had gone to Number 1 and were almost lost for words at the news.

"[It's] beyond even comprehension," Hannah said, "Thank you for supporting us all and thank you to the British public - we really appreciate it."

Last week's Number 1, The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights', slipped a place to Number 2. The track is the biggest song of the year so far, racking up five non-consecutive weeks at the top.
